Restaurant Review - The Drop In / NADC Burger
About
The Drop In is a tiny dive bar in Chicago. It's not near anything. When I
hear about a good restaurant in Chicago, it is either downtown, river north,
west loop, Bucktown, Lincoln park, or somewhere you can find other
restaurants. This little place, however, is in a weird spot between River
north and west loop.
This is my long-winded way of saying it was my first time visiting that
neighborhood in 9 years.
We were greeted by a rude couple blocking the entrance who feared that if
we stepped inside the restaurant before them, we would snatch their chance
of getting a table before us because The Drop In is first-come,
first-serve.
My experience with the wait staff, however, was nothing but wonderful. The
waiter came out and asked everyone to step in and wait inside, and after a
short 15 min wait, we got our table!
Then I saw the menu.
Oh my word, it was perfect. It just had 3 items in it. That's
it.
- Burger
- Cheese Sandwich
- Fries
No fuss, no nothing.
The Burger
Shireen and I ordered a burger each and "beast mode" fries for the
table.
Before I go to the burger, let me quickly say that these fries are now in
the top 3 fries I've ever had.
This Burger, though. A simple smash burger with two patties, a slice of
American cheese, some pickles, grilled onions, and secret sauce.
The perfectly cooked patty, juicy, immaculately seasoned, complemented by
the saltiness of American cheese, the sweetness of grilled onions, and then
the pickle cutting through all of that to make it the most balanced burger I
have ever had in my life.
Well, this is THE BEST Burger I have ever had. Period.
